Herbert Paul Schaffer

Herbert Paul Schaffer, age 79, of Lewisville, TX, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008, in Carrollton, TX.He was born January 13, 1929 in Hamlin, KS to Rev. William Herbert Schaffer and Helen Maurine Hostetler Schaffer. Herbert served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952 and then served in the Naval Reserves through 1956. He married Elaine Ferry of Spokane, WA on August 10, 1950 in Sedro Woolley, WA He was a graduate of Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, having earned undergraduate and graduate degrees. Mr. Schaffer taught 5th-8th grade for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Herbert was a member of Renaissance Village Bible Class Mission of Hope Church of Flower Mound. He was also a member of Toastmasters; the Washington Education Association; the Bellevue Philharmonic, the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society.Herbert is survived by his wife, Elaine (TX); children, Dr. William Allen Schaffer (VT), Bernard James Schaffer (IL), Rebecca Schaffer Lane (TX) and Rev. Robert Paul Schaffer (CO); 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Alyce Ann Schaffer (WA) and brother, William Lewis Schaffer (FL).A memorial service to celebrate Herbert’s life will be held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Renaissance Village, 1716 S. Edmonds Lane, Lewisville, TX 75067.
