December 26, 1955 – January 16, 2024
Jim Price, of Auburn, passed away suddenly, January 16 in Palm Springs, California. Jim was born in Minneapolis on December 26, 1955 and moved to Auburn when he was 10 years old. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1973 where he served as editor of the Troy Invoice. Jim was a hard worker and immersed himself in sports whenever possible. Jim was a student manager for the WSU Cougar football team from 1973-76, working with head coach Jim Sweeney. He married, Kathie (Valentine), his highschool sweetheart, in 1976.
Following graduation from WSU, Jim served 28 years as an officer and detective with the Port of Seattle Police Department. During that time, he spent 10 years on the Seahawk sidelines helping players with equipment at every home game. Jim loved golfing in sunny Palm Springs and organized annual “Runs to the Sun” with friends for over 40 years. During his retirement, he regularly visited his condo in Bermuda Dunes, sold sports cards and memorabilia on Ebay, traveled to many states, and spent seven years hosting Seattle Thunderbird Hockey Players. Jim loved his family, friends, dogs, sports memorabilia, and hydroplanes. Jim was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter, Traci. He is survived by his wife, Kathie, and daughters, Kristen Price – Joof (Assan) and Sarah Spring (Stephen). He enjoyed teasing and selecting surprises for his granddaughters, Maliha, Jannah, Lauren, and Maci. Honoring Jim’s wishes, there will be no service. The family appreciates all the words, calls and cards they have received. Donations are suggested to the Auburn Humane Society or the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum. Jim lived life to the fullest! He will be missed by many!
