Kathleen Cecilia (McHugh) Wilson Sherman | Obituary

March 30, 1950 – December 5, 2024

Kathleen Cecilia (McHugh) Wilson Sherman, 74, passed away on December 5, 2024, due to complications from heart disease.

Kathy was born on March 30, 1950, in Los Angeles to Edith and Paul Sherman. She was the younger sister to Robert and Marilyn. In 1968, Kathy married Charles (Ed) Wilson, and in 1972, they welcomed their daughter, Brittany. In 1978, the family moved to Wasilla, AK, for Ed’s job, and in 1983, they eventually settled in Washington state.

In 1988, Kathy discovered her true passion for writing and journalism. She began as a “stringer”at a local publishing company, quickly earning a reputation for her well-written local stories and strong community involvement. In the early ‘90s, Kathy launched Your Auburn Community, a popular monthly shopper, where she served as Editor-in-Chief. This marked the beginning of her long and fruitful collaboration with the City of Auburn.

Kathy cared deeply for her community, generously donating her time and talents to various causes, fundraisers, and events. Whether it was contributing ad space or designing a program for a charity auction, Kathy was always there to help.

She was honored to serve as the first female President of the Auburn Noon Lions Club, dedicating many years of service to the organization. It was at the Lions’ weekly lunch meetings that she met Raymond E. Sherman, whom she married in 2000. The couple enjoyed many years together until his passing in 2013.

Kathy retired from publishing in 2015, after spending her final years as an office manager and ad creator at the Kent Reporter.

A lifelong enthusiast of crossword puzzles and word games, Kathy’s sharp wit, vast vocabulary, and clever turns of phrase will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Ray and her beloved pets, Lucky, Buddy, and Cooper. She is survived by her daughter Brittany, son-in-law Jesse, and many dear friends, colleagues, and fellow Lions.

A memorial service will be held at the William C. Warren building in Veteran’s Memorial Park, on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 3:00-6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal rescue charity.
