Ken Strachan
Born Kenneth James Strachan to Thomas and Mary Ellen Strachan on February 9, 1931 in Pelican Rapids, MN. Ken had three older sisters, Mary, Lois and Doris. The family moved when he was a young boy to Hoquiam, WA. He graduated Hoquiam High School in 1949. He attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis and graduated as an X-Ray and Electrocardiograph Technician. He enlisted in the army and served from 1950-1952. While attending the University of Washington Ken met Corinne McCrae on a blind date and they married a year later, March 18, 1955. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1956 with a degree in pharmacy. They moved to Auburn in 1956 where he worked for Peckenpaugh Drug from 1956-1997, where he became co-owner of Peckenpaugh Drug and Peckenpaugh Hallmark. Ken was a member of the Auburn Rotary Club for many years. Ken and Corinne have three children – Kathryn Duecker of Reseda, CA, Patricia Fioretti of Covington, WA and James Strachan of Sumner, WA – and 4 grandchildren – Stefan, Angela, Nicholas and Danielle. Ken enjoyed boating and was a member of the Tacoma Yacht Club. Ken and Corinne were frequently out on their boat the Brisa de Mar (Ken’s pride and joy). They attended the annual Chris Craft Rendezvous in Port Orchard for many years. He also enjoyed traveling and seemed to meet someone he knew in every corner of the world. Ken passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2009. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in September, but the family knows he passed away from a broken heart. He never got over the loss of Corinne in June.He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary and Lois.
