Margaret Lois Moores | Obituary

May 31, 1939 – June 26, 2024

Margaret Lois Moores, age 85, of Lake Tapps, Washington, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in Everett. She was born May 31, 1939, to Clair and Lois (Booher) Moores in Mount Vernon.

Margaret grew up on her family’s farm in Mount Vernon before adventuring across the state to attending Washington State University in Pullman. Margaret graduated with a BA in Elementary Education in 1961 and she remained a proud WSU Cougar fan throughout her life.

Margaret was fiercely independent, living on her own into her 80’s on her wooded property near Lake Tapps. Margaret spent her entire career – more than 40 years – with the Auburn School District, teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.

After retiring, she traveled to Hawaii, Las Vegas and Paris, France with her two best friends, Laurie and Lenore. Margaret also had a small group of high school friends in Mount Vernon that she stayed in touch with daily and visited often. Margaret enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her brother, Lee, and her cousins. She met a group of cousins monthly for “cousin’s lunch” and was very close with her cousin, Arthur Tilly (age 96) of Kent, WA.

Margaret’s hobbies included reading, puzzles, tending to her flowers and bird watching. She also loved her pets, chocolate, and watching her friend, Dave, play drums in his local band.

Margaret is survived by her brother, Lee Moores and his wife, Patricia (nee Warrick) of Stanwood , WA; nephew, Christopher Moores and his wife, Karen ( nee Pascarella ) of Snohomish, WA with their two sons, Colton Moores and Carter Moores; and niece, Melanie Coon ( nee Moores ) and her husband, Daniel, of Bothell, WA with their daughter, Audrey Coon. She is also survived by her pet dog Smidge, who never left her side.

She is preceded in death by her dogs, Diggity, Maya and her cats, Pill and Pretty Boy Floyd.

A graveside service for Margaret Moores is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Mount Vernon Cemetery, 1200 E. Fir St., Mount Vernon, WA.
