Mary Cruz passed away peacefully October 16, 2021 at the age of 97. She was born on August 26, 1924 in Seattle to Joseph and Catherine Petree. Mary spent most of her childhood on Vashon Island before moving back to Seattle to attend high school. An original Rosie the Riveter during WWII, Mary and her mother aided the war effort at Boeing. She was married in 1943 to Aniceto “Alex” Cruz, a union that lasted 49 years.

Mary was a longtime resident of Kent and Auburn. Residing in the valley over 60 years, she was passionate about flowers and worked part-time in local greenhouses every spring. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, and spoiling her children, numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Above all, Mary wanted to be remembered as a kind person who never hesitated to help others.

Mary was preceded in death by husband Alex, nine brothers and sisters, and her daughter Charlotte. Mary is survived by daughter Rosemary, son Roy, daughter Elaine, and son Randy.

Mary will be dearly missed and will be remembered in our hearts always.
