Patricia Winter
1917 – 2010
Pat Winter passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010. She was 92 and had lived in Auburn all of her life. She was the daughter of James and Bernice Jeffries and had one sister, Bernice Williamson. Her parents owned a summer place at Redondo and some of her happiest memories are of the summers spent there. Her husband, Daniel Winter, also lived in Redondo in the summer, so she knew him most of her life. She loved to dance, and as a teenager she attended the dances at the Amusedrome in Redondo, which later became a skating rink, so she started to skate. It was at the skating rink where she and Dan renewed their friendship. They were married on October 22, 1940 and enjoyed 51 years of marriage before Dan died in 1991. After her graduation from Auburn High School in 1935 she attended Knapp Business College in Tacoma for two years, and then worked at the National Bank of Washington until her marriage. She was a founding member of the Dr. Frank D. Merritt Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital in 1947 and recently was honored for 60 years of service to the hospital. She was a volunteer leader for Boy and Girl Scouts and a busy volunteer with the United Methodist Women at her church. She was also a docent at the White River Valley Museum in Auburn and very involved with the activity committee at Rio Verde. She and Dan, along with several friends formed a dancing club in the 1950’s called Club 66 which lasted for many years. She is survived by her children John (Louise), Bob, Diane Kester (Rick), Jeff (Louise), and also by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on June 4th at the First United Methodist Church, 100 N St SE, Auburn. Remembrances may be made to Seattle Children’s Hospital.
