Yoshiye “Yosh” Yanagawa

1922-2010

Monday, May 10, 2010 Yoshiye Masaye (Okura) Yanagawa, 88 of Kent, Washington passed away at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Yosh was born in Bellevue, Washington on March 12, 1922. She grew up and graduated from Auburn High School. During WWII, her parents and two sisters accompanied her to the Gila River “Canal” Internment Camp in Arizona where she worked as a nurse’s aide. In 1944, she married Tadashi (also known as Tee) Okura and took up the life of a farmer’s wife. Yosh enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and other crafts. Over the years, she lived in the Oregon Treasure Valley area, Washington Green River Valley, and finally settling in Kent, Washington. Her husband Tee passed away in 1969, later in 1973 she married Tetsuo Yanagawa. Yosh was a devoted Christian and active member of the Red Hat Club, Panther Lake Community Church and a volunteer at the Kent Senior Citizen Center. Yosh is survived by daughters Lora Jernquist, Christy Anderson, and Patricia Mizuta; son Tom Okura; sisters Nobue Uchida and Dorothy Harada; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Yosh is preceded in death by her parents, Sakujiro and Tani Yuki, two husbands Tetsuo Yanagawa and Tadashi “Tee” Okura and sister, Chiye. She will be missed and remembered by her family, many friends and acquaintances for her warm smile, friendship, generosity, and loving heart.The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho for the loving care that they bestowed upon our mother.
