Chu and You, nearly invincible as a 2-year-old, attempts to rediscover her winning ways in the $50,000 Seattle Handicap for 3-year-old fillies on Sunday, June 1.

At 6½ furlongs, the Seattle Handicap is the first stop for sophomore fillies en route to the Aug. 9 Washington Oaks and the lone sprint of the four-race series.

Eight horses are nominated to the Seattle, topped by Chu and You, last year’s state and track champion 2-year-old filly after running the table for juvenile fillies at Emerald Downs. Owned and bred by Mike and Amy Feuerborn, Chu and You won three stakes, all gate-to-wire, and earned $87,884.

Chu and You has dropped two straight races, however, including a sixth in her 2014 debut in the Ross McLeod Stakes at Hastings Racecourse.

Trained by Robbie Baze, Chu and You is the most accomplished of the local runners, a group that includes stake-placed fillies Strawberry Dawn, Belladiva and Sunpenny.

Lotta Attitude, already a double winner at the meet for trainer Blaine Wright, is improving rapidly and earned a 72 Beyer while defeating optional claimers at 5 ½ furlongs on May 10. Just a Love, from the Jim Penney barn, scored a game victory vs. maiden special weights at six furlongs on May 10 and also appears to have a bright future.

Northern California-based City by the Bay would be an obvious contender if she runs. Trained by Billy Morey, the Kentucky-bred daughter of City Zip is unbeaten in two career starts, including an 8¾-length triumph in the $100,000 Barretts Debutante Stakes last September at Fairplex Park.
