HOCKEY

BEGINNERS PROGRAM: The Sno-King Junior Thunderbirds will offer a year-round, beginners-level program for boys and girls ages 5-10. No skating experience is necessary. The program will be on Saturdays at Castle Ice in the Renton Highlands, or at Kingsgate Ice Arena in Kirkland. Players are welcome to join at any time. THUNDERBIRDS HOCKEY SCHOOL: This weeklong camp is Aug. 15 to 20 at the ShoWare Center in Kent and will feature Seattle Thunderbirds players and coaches as instructors. The 2011 Thunderbirds Hockey School will consist of six groups: Group A for 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds; Group B for 9- and 10-year-olds; Group C for 11- and 12-year-olds; Group D for 13- and 14-year-olds; and an Adult group for players 18-years-old and older. In addition the school will feature a Junior Prep Group geared towards 15- to 19-year-old players preparing for their upcoming junior season. Players interested in this group will be required to call the T-Birds to register. Youth Group registrants will receive a hockey school jersey while Adult and Junior Prep registrants will receive a hockey school t-shirt. The T-Birds will announce which players and staff will be at the camp as guest instructors in mid July. BASKETBALL

AUBURN PARKS ADULT 4-ON-4 FALL LEAGUE: The City of Auburn’s Parks, Arts & Recreation Department offers adult basketball leagues for a variety of ability levels. In the Fall the department will offer 4-on-4 full-court basketball without officials. Ten games will be offered with no playoffs. Early registration deadline is the second Wednesday of September. ICE SKATING

LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES: An eight-week series with group and private lessons for boys, girls and adults is being offered at KENT VALLEY ICE CENTRE. Instruction is based on criteria set forth by the Ice Skating Institute. Skating classes are a solid starting point for those interested in figure skating or hockey. SWIMMING

AUBURN POOL CLOSED FOR RENOVATION: The Auburn School District Swimming Pool, located at 516 4th Street N.E.will be closed for major renovations until Aug. 24. For more information call the pool at 253-939-8825.

BASEBALL

TRIPLE PLAY BASEBALL CLUB: Players ages 12-18 with a passion for baseball and a desire to take their game to the next level are invited to a workout with Triple Play baseball Club. More information: (253) 249-9359.

SOCCER

AUBURN PARKS YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUES: This fall program for youth in kindergarten to eighth-grade begins in mid-September and continues through early to mid-November. Registration deadline is first Wednesday of August. Boys and girls play in separate leagues. Each player receives a t-shirt and a ball.

WRESTLING

AUBURN JUNIOR WRESTLING TEAM: The Auburn Junior Wrestling season runs from late October through January. The program is one of 18 members of the Pierce County Junior Wrestling League. League competition is a combination of round robin tournaments and dual meets, usually 5 per season. There are also optional tournaments (with additional fees) on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Wrestling is a competitive sport by nature but children will learn to win and lose with dignity and good sportsmanship. Wrestlers may not turn 13 this year. FOOTBALL

AUBURN PARKS ADULT LEAGUE: The Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation department will offer adult flag football leagues beginning in September. Six players per side will play on a modified field with an intermediate-size football. Teams will play eight league games, one game a day, on Sundays & Wednesdays, from Sept. 11 to Nov. 16. Game start times will range between 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Sundays and between 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Team registration fees are $620, with an extra $50 for teams registering after Aug. 10. Three levels of play will be offered at all tournaments and leagues and may be combined if deemed necessary. AUBURN PARKS TUFF BURN TOURNEY:Auburn Parks will offer the Tuff Burn Flag Football Tournament on Aug. 27 and 28. Team registration is $300 with a three-game guarantee. Round robin format for first two games, third game seeds all teams into a single elimination playoff bracket. UEDGE SPORTS/TANOA BOWL WILL HOST CAMPS: UEdge Sports, the organization behind the TANOA Bowl, will host a pair of youth football camps Aug. 12 and 13 at Auburn Memorial Stadium. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. the inaugural TANOA Youth Camp will be conducted, featuring position, 1-one-1 and 7-on-7 drills. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. and the cost is $30 per player. Team (14 players) rates are also available on request.Beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 13 at Auburn Memorial Stadium a high school camp will be conducted. Cost for this camp – which includes 1-on-1 and team 7-on-7 drills – is $50 for pre-registration, $60 for walkups. Team rates are also available. Lunch and T-shirts will be provided for players. AUBURN PARKS COACHES, SPONSORS: Volunteer coaches, assistants and sponsors are need for various Auburn Parks programs. All coaches are certified through the National Youth Sport Coaches Association and must clear a Washington State Patrol background check.
SPONSORS are needed for the teams that will take part in Auburn Parks leagues in various sports. The team sponsorship fee is $195, with that business having its name and logo on the T-shirt uniform. AUBURN GOLF COURSE OFF-SEASON PASSES are now on sale at Auburn Golf Course, 29630 Green River Road S.E. Options include either a monthly pass with unlimited play, or a monthly pass with weekday play options. Cards are valid through March 31, 2011.
