AUBURN PARKS SKILLS TRAINING
This program is designed for boys and girls in grades 2-8 who are serious about improving their skill levels. Players will be taught the most effective ways to perform moves on the court, how to practice moves on their own, and how to set up workouts to continue practicing on their own. Sessions are set for Thursdays, Oct. 7-Nov. 4, and Nov. 18-Dec. 16 at Rainier Middle School in Auburn. Players in grades 2-5 will meet from 6-7 p.m.; players in grades 6-8 will meet from 7-8 p.m. The cost is $55 for Auburn residents and $69 for non-residents. The instructor is Matt Swagerty. AUBURN PARKS ADULT WINTER LEAGUES
These 5-on-5 leagues (National on Monday nights, Jan. 10-March 21, and Continental on Tuesday nights, Jan. 11-March 22) are open to players age 18 and older, and include officials, trophies and playoffs. Teams will play 10 games. The team entry fee is $650 if registered by Dec. 2, and $675 after that date. AUBURN PARKS YOUTH PROGRAM
This all-pass, non-contact league is open to players in grades 4-8, and goes from Oct. 11 to Nov. 22. Teams will be formed by grade (4-5 and 6-8). Practices are scheduled by volunteer coaches for weekday evenings, with games played on Monday and/or Wednesday evenings at Game Farm Park and Brannan Park, and possible travel to facilities in the surrounding area. VOLUNTEER COACHES and ASSISTANT COACHES are need for various Auburn Parks programs. All coaches are certified through the National Youth Sport Coaches Association and must clear a Washington State Patrol background check.
SPONSORS are needed for the teams that will take part in Auburn Parks leagues in various sports. The team sponsorship fee is $195, with that business having its name and logo on the T-shirt uniform. BEGINNERS PROGRAM
The Sno-King Junior Thunderbirds will offer a year-round, beginners-level program for boys and girls ages 5-10. No skating experience is necessary. The program will be on Saturdays at Castle Ice in the Renton Highlands, or at Kingsgate Ice Arena in Kirkland. Players are welcome to join at any time. AUBURN GYMNASTICS CENTER PROGRAMS
Various programs for boys and girls are being offered on Wednesdays, Oct. 6-27, and Nov. 3-24. MINI STARS is for ages 3-4, with a focus on basic gymnastics concepts, balance and strength. The program goes from 10:30-11:15 a.m. The cost is $40 for Auburn residents and $50 for non-residents. MIGHTY STARS focuses on beginning tumbling and apparatus exercises. No previous experience is required. It toes from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $45 for Auburn residents and $57 for non-residents. BEGINNING GYMNASTICS focuses on muscle control, flexibility, power and coordination. It goes from 6-7:30 p.m. The cost is $60 for Auburn residents and $75 for non-residents. HARTS GYMNASTICS CENTER PROGRAMS/CAMPS
A PRESCHOOL PROGRAM will be offered on Thursdays (Oct. 7-28 from 5-5:45 p.m.) and Saturdays (Oct. 9-30 and Nov. 6-27, from 10-10:45 a.m.). The cost is $50 for Auburn residents and $63 for non-residents. An additional Thursday session (5-5:45 p.m.) will be offered Nov. 4-18, and an addition Saturday session (10-10:45 a.m.) will be offered Dec. 4-18. The cost for those sessions is $38 for Auburn residents and $48 for non-residents. A GIRLS PROGRAM with all four Olympic events plus trampolene and loose foam pit will be offered on Tuesdays, Oct. 5-26, Nov. 2-23 and Nov. 30-Dec. 21, from 6-6:55 p.m. The cost is $58 for Auburn residents and $73 for non-residents.
A HOLIDAY CAMP is scheduled for Dec. 27-29 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. Costs for one child are $125 for Auburn residents and $157 for non-residents. Two children from the same family are $88 each for Auburn residents and $110 each for non-residents. Three or more are $75 each for Auburn residents and $94 each for non-residents. LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES
An eight-week series with group and private lessons for boys, girls and adults is being offered at KENT VALLEY ICE CENTRE. Instruction is based on criteria set forth by the Ice Skating Institute. SCUBA DIVING
SCUBA ORIENTATION NIGHT FOR TEENS
This event is for boys and girls ages 10-18. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 6-9 p.m. at the Tukwila Pool adjacent to the Foster High School campus. It will explore the world of scuba through a multi-media presentation and then offer a chance to don a swimsuit and dive into a heated pool to learn basic scuba skills and play underwater games. All gear is provided, and the experience can be credited toward a full PADI certification upon completion. The cost is $59 for Auburn residents and $74 for non-residents. The pool, located adjacent to Auburn High School at 516 4th St. N.E. offers several programs for the FALL (through Nov. 14). FAMLY SWIMS are Monday through Friday from noon-1 p.m., and Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 7-8 p.m. ($3 adults, $2.50 youth and seniors). PUBLIC SWIMS are Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. ($1 for everyone) and 7-9 p.m. ($3 adults, $2.50 youth and seniors). Now accepting registrations for the Highline College Fall volleyball camps for elementary, junior and senior high school players. The volleyball camps and instructional league will be held at the Highline College gym, 2400 S 240th St., Des Moines. These two-day clinics are for players age 13 to adult. Among the topics covered are putting spin on the ball to increase control, how to snap a ball instead of hitting it, and how to put ‘pop’ onto serves. WRESTLING
AUBURN PARKS DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM
This program at Auburn High School is for athletes ages 6-12 who attend a public or private school in the Auburn School District or Dieringer School District, or who live within those boundaries. It goes from Oct. 18 to Jan. 23. The focus is on fundamentals, sportsmanship, conditioning, teamwork and confidence in a fun-filled yet competitive atmosphere. Some travel to surrounding areas is required. Teams are formed by age (6-8 and 9-12). The cost is $50 for Auburn residents and $60 for non-residents, with an addition $10 for registrations received after Oct. 19. Practices for all ages are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. A parent meeting is scheduled for Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in the old gym at Auburn High School.
