Auburn, Auburn Riverside continue winning ways | Girls Basketball

The Auburn girls basketball team extended it’s winning streak to five this past Friday with a 43-29 win over the Falcons at Kentlake High School. The Trojans (7-5 South Puget Sound League North 4A, 8-8 overall) opened the game cold as ice in the first quarter, scoring just five points while allowing Kentlake (6-5, 9-6) to post 12 points.

The Trojans (7-5 South Puget Sound League North 4A, 8-8 overall) opened the game cold as ice in the first quarter, scoring just five points while allowing Kentlake (6-5, 9-6) to post 12 points.

The rest of the game was all Auburn, however, with the Trojan defense knuckling down and allowing the Falcons to score just one point in the second quarter.

Auburn outscored Kentlake 23-16 in the second half to put away the SPSL North 4A victory.

Isia Johnson led the Trojans with a game-high 15 points with Heather Restrepo and McKenna Swanson adding seven points apiece.

Morganne Comstock had 10 points to lead the Falcons.

The win put the Trojans in control of fourth place in the SPSL North 4A, with Auburn Riverside, Federal Way and Kentwood holding down the top-three spots in the league.

Auburn will travel to Federal Way for a contest against the No. 5 ranked Eagles at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

ELSEWHERE: The Raven (12-0, 15-0) girls continued their dominance of the SPSL North 4A with a 92-47 win over Kent-Meridian this past Saturday. Auburn Riverside put their stamp on the game early, holding the hapless Royals scoreless in the first quarter, while posting 18 points. The Ravens finished with five players in double-digit scoring, with Mercedes Wetmore leading the way with 21. Kat Cooper added 16, with Jelisa Pretz chipping in with 13 points. Makenna Clark added 11 and Jalea Crump had 10 points. Auburn Riverside will host Kentridge (0-12, 1-15) at 7 p.m. Tuesday… The Auburn Mountainview (7-4 SPSL 3A, 9-6 overall) girls basketball squad had it’s winning streak snapped at six this past Friday, with a 47-44 loss to White River (9-1, 12-2). The Lions roared out to a 29-23 lead after the first half, but were unable to hang on as the Hornets, led by Brooke Paulson’s 21-points, came back for the league win. Auburn Mountainview was led by Caitlin Carr’s 11 points, with Angel Pele and Stephanie Smolinski adding 10 points apiece. The Lions will host Bonney Lake (8-3, 11-4) at 7 p.m., Tuesday.
