The Auburn boys basketball team fell 64-53 to the No. 1 ranked Federal Way Eagles last Tuesday at Auburn High School.
The Trojans, currently fourth in the South Puget Sound League North 4A race at 7-6, 11-6 overall, had a tough time getting started. Auburn posted just three first-quarter points and found itself in a 35-21 halftime hole. Auburn outscored the Eagles (11-0, 14-1) 32-29 in the second half, but couldn’t catch up to the defending state 4A champions.
Kevin Henderson led the Trojans with 19 points, with junior Iszia Johnson adding 13 points. Zakk Garcia and Tyler Jones added seven points apiece.
Cole Dickerson led Federal Way with 25 points, with Jerry Duckworth adding 16.
Auburn played Tahoma (2-10, 4-11) Thursday night, with the score unavailable at press time. The squad will travel to Kentwood (7-5, 7-8) for a 7:30 game Saturday.
ELSEWHERE: The Auburn Riverside (7-6, 10-7) boys fell 60-53 to Kentridge (9-4, 12-5) last Tuesday. Ryan Rogers led the Ravens with a game-high 26 points with Dustin Hegge adding 13 points. The Chargers’ Gary Bell had 23 points. The Ravens, currently fifth in the SPSL North 4A, play at Jefferson (6-6, 9-7) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Auburn Riverside will host Kentlake (5-7, 6-10) at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 and close out the regular season at Auburn at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5. … Auburn Mountainview (4-8, 5-11) lost 58-53 at Bonney Lake (5-7, 6-9) last Tuesday. Josh Alexander led the team with 13 points, with Neal Leatherman adding 11. The Panthers were led by Nate Braun’s 13 points. The Lions will host Sumner (2-8, 3-11) at 7 p.m. today.
