Auburn High School basketball team competes in the national championship game

After winning the state championship in Washington, Auburn High School’s boys basketball team advanced to the national championship game April 9.

The Trojans played against Calvary Christian on April 9 in a game televised live on ESPN 2. However, Auburn lost, 71-44. According to MaxPreps.com, the Calvary Christian Eagles “were dominant from the onset, going on a 24-5 run to start the game en route to winning an event that aims to establish a foundation for a future potential national championship tournament among NFHS state champions.” In the game, Auburn was led by was led by seniors Maleek Arington (17 points, four steals) and Tre Blassingame (13 points, 11 rebounds).

The Trojans had previously beat Norcross High School from Georgia, 58-4, in the State Championship Invitational semifinals in Tampa, Florida. Kaden Hansen led in points with 17 points followed by Dae’Kwon Watson with 13 points, Tre Blassingame scored 10 points, 11 rebounds and six steals. The State Championship Invitational is a post-season tournament in which high school basketball state champions compete against each other.
