Some of the best seventh- and eighth-grade football players from Washington, Arizona and California compete in the Jr. Tanoa Showcase on May 25-26 at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
Mayor Pete Lewis will toss the coin for the opening game on Saturday.
“We’re very proud to host these young athletes in our city,” Lewis said. “It’s a great family event.”
Those attending include Brandon Huffman of ScoutFoxSports.com; Danny Shelton and Cory Fuavai of the University of Washington; Desmond Thompson, who signed a Letter of Intent to Portland University; and Auburn Mountainview’s Domenic Rockey, who is scheduled to attend Washington State University.
“These kids have worked hard to get here, not only physically, but also mentally and academically,” said Simi Strickland, coach and director of the event. “The Jr. Tanoa Showcase is for some, the eight-year culmination of learning both on and off the field. While for others, it’s a chance to go to the next level and learn from fellow athletes.”
