Auburn Mountainview 2-0 at Surf ‘N Slam; Auburn goes 1-1 in Wenatchee | Boys prep basketball

Auburn Mountainview improved to 2-0 at the Surf 'N Slam Tournament at University City High School in San Diego on Wednesday with a 67-48 win over Colony High School of Palmer, Alaska.

The win sets up a 1:45 p.m. title game today in the San Diego Division between the Lions (6-3 overall) and International High School from San Francisco,

Senior Marion Beauchamp led the charge for the Lions against Colony with 16 points. Senior Shaddye Melu chipped in with 14 points and junior JJ Lacey had 11 points. Senior Drew Sleezer added eight.

On Tuesday, the Lions opened with a 67-58 win over Bentley High School of Lafayette, Calif.

Melu had 22 points in the contest, with Beauchamp adding 16 and Lacey 11. Keith Green contributed 10 points.

Last week, the Lions fell 56-45 to Sumner at the ShoWare Shootout in Kent. Melu led the team with 14 points with Green adding 13.

Auburn Mountainview begins South Puget Sound League 3A play at home against Bonney Lake (4-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Lions travel to Lakes at 7 p.m. next Friday to take on the 3-4 Lancers.

ALSO: Auburn split a pair of contests this week, defeating Eisenhower 55-47 and losing 57-42 to Wenatchee at the Wenatachee Holiday Classic. Harold Lee led the Trojans (3-4 SPSL North 4A, 5-6 overall) with 18 points with Nik Edwardson contributing 14. Spencer Fisher had eight points and JJ Ruffin chipped in with seven. The Trojans resume SPSL North 4A play next Friday with a 7:30 p.m. game at Auburn Riverside (1-6, 1-8).
