Upset-minded Auburn Mountainview fell just short of handing fourth-ranked Enumclaw its second loss of the baseball season, losing 8-7 to the Hornets on Tuesday.
After falling behind 7-0 going into the sixth inning, the Lions (5-5 South Puget Sound League 3A, 7-8 overall) exploded for seven runs in their half of the frame, tying the game.
The Lions were unable to hold on for the win, however, allowing Enumclaw (6-1, 10-1) to score in the seventh and pull out the game.
Auburn Mountainview’s Chris Hunter was tagged with the loss. Michael Lucarelli earned the win for the Hornets.
The contest was the second meeting between the rivals, with Auburn Mountainview beating Enumclaw 2-1 on April 6.
Auburn Mountainview, currently third in the SPSL 3A, will close out its regular season with two games against Decatur this week and two games against Lakes next week.
