Auburn Mountainview falls to Peninsula 7-1, Auburn Riverside and Auburn both earn wins | Baseball

The No. 2 ranked 3A Lions fell 8-1 to Peninsula at Auburn Mountainview in South Puget Sound League 3A action on Tuesday. Peninsula (8-3 league, 10-5 overall) erupted for nine hits in the contest and took advantage of Auburn Mountainview (10-2 league, 15-2 overall) miscues, scoring five unearned runs.

Peninsula (8-3 league, 10-5 overall) erupted for nine hits in the contest and took advantage of Auburn Mountainview (10-2 league, 15-2 overall) miscues, scoring five unearned runs.

Senior Shawn Guinn was tagged with the loss on the hill, throwing 3.2 innings and giving up eight hits – including a home run – and four earned runs, while striking out four. Junior Joey Cassano pitched 2.1 innings in relief, striking out two and giving up just one hit.

Offensively, The Lions were led by Sophomore Mason Cerrillo who had two hits, including a double, and scored the team’s only run.

Auburn Mountainview finished the game with two errors.

The win against Auburn Mountainview is the second this season for Peninsula, who notched a 5-4 victory on March 27.

The teams will meet for the third time this season at 7 p.m. Thursday at Auburn Mountainview High School.

ALSO: Auburn Riverside improved to 5-4 in the SPSL North 4A, 5-7 overall, with a 4-2 win against Tahoma (5-4, 7-5) Tuesday in Auburn. Noah Freelund earned the win on the bump, giving up five hits in five innings with seven strikeouts. Justin Jacobs had two hits, a run and a double at the plate for the Ravens and Christopher Minteer added two hits, a run and an RBI. The Ravens will travel to Kent-Meridian (0-11, 2-13) at 4 p.m. Thursday and play crosstown rival Auburn (3-7, 3-11) at 4 p.m. Friday at Brannan Park… Auburn is currently riding a two-game win streak with a 6-4 victory at Jefferson (4-8, 6-8) on Monday. Dillon O’Grady led the way offensively with three RBIs and Xavier West earned the win on the mound. The Trojans play at Tahoma (5-4, 7-5) at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday.
