Auburn Mountainview girls on track for division title, Riverside and Auburn look to make postseason | Girls Water Polo

The Auburn Mountainview girls water polo team defeated rival Auburn Riverside, 5-2, at the Auburn Pool on Tuesday.

The win clears one hurdle for the Lions as they pursue an East Division title and a berth in the state tournament May 18, 20-21 at the Rogers High School Pool.

Amanda Nuttall, Jessica Nuttall and Katie McAllister scored goals for the Lions, who lead the East with a 7-0 record, 7-2 overall.

“The team has definitely exceeded our expectations,” said Auburn Mountainview coach Dannette Schreib. “We’re looking forward to state and the bigger pool. We’re a pretty fast team, so it should be good for us.”

The Lions play their final two division matches against last-place Bonney Lake/Sumner at 3:15 p.m. next Tuesday at the Sumner Pool, and fourth-place Auburn at 5:30 p.m. next Thursday at the Auburn Pool.

Auburn Riverside was second in the East Division last season and placed eighth at the state tourney.

ALSO: Auburn Riverside is still in the hunt for a postseason spot despite its loss to the Lions. Riverside is currently third in the East Division with a 4-3 record. The team played second-place Enumclaw on Thursday night, with results unavailable at press time, and close out division play against Auburn at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday at the Auburn Pool. The top-two teams from the East Division move on to state. The third- and fourth-place teams from each of the regions three divisions will compete for two spots into the state tourney in tiebreakers May 14 at Rogers. … The Auburn girls are fourth in the East Division with a 3-4 record. The Trojans finish their division schedule next Tuesday against Auburn Riverside.
