Auburn Mountainview moves 7 gymnasts to district meet

The Auburn Mountainview gymnastics team will be well represented at next Saturday's West Central District III 3A meet. The Lions will move on seven gymnasts led by senior Cassie Hunt who qualified in the all-around competition at this past Saturday's South Puget Sound League 3A sub district meet with a 32.200 score.

The Lions moved seven gymnasts to district led by senior Cassie Hunt who qualified in the all-around competition at Saturday’s South Puget Sound League 3A sub district meet with a 32.200 score.

“I didn’t expect to qualify that many kids,” said Auburn Mountainview coach Jayme Hostetter.

Also moving on is junior Vasha McQuarrie who qualified in the vault (8.050), the uneven bars (6.300) and the floor exercise (7.700).

Junior Emily Morgan moves on to compete in the vault (7.600), the bars (5.850) and the beam (7.300), and senior Lauren Brudvik moves on to compete in the vault (8.300) and the floor (8.025).

Junior Hannah Houck, despite competing with a broken thumb, earned qualifying scores in the floor (7.775) and the beam (7.700).

Rounding out Auburn Mountainview qualifiers were junior Delaney Ralph on the beam (7.100) and senior Kristin Scott on the floor (7.500).

“The kids are super excited and I’m excited for them,” Hostetter said.

The team competition was won by defending state 3A champ Enumclaw with 175.250 points and Decatur with 164.575, who both move on to the district team competition. The Lions were third with 143.700 team points.

The WCD III meet gets under way at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines. The top two teams, top 12 individuals and top four all-around competitors move on to the state 3A championships Feb. 15-16 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.

ALSO: Auburn qualified five individuals for district at Saturday’s South Puget Sound League 4A sub-district meet.

Ashley Bechard earned berth in the all-around competition at districts with a 33.125 point performance and teammate Bailie Davis qualified in the vault (8.3500 and the bars (7.050).

Also moving on are Michaela Zerr in the beam (8.450), Halle Perry in the beam (7.725) and April Klamke in the floor exercise (8.800).

Auburn scored 147.400 team points to finish 10th. The team competition was won by Emerald Ridge with 172.300 points, with Puyallup and Jefferson also moving on to the district team competition with 167.075 and 164.475 points, respectively. Auburn Riverside was sixth in the team competition with 153.125 points but did not qualify any individual gymnasts.

The top two teams, top 11 individuals and top three all-around competitors move on to the state 4A championships Feb. 15-16 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.
