The Auburn Riverside and Auburn boys and girls track and field teams found success at the South Puget Sound League 4A meet this weekend at French Field in Kent.
Both schools move several athletes on to the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 4A meet, with the top nine finishers from the league meet competing this Friday and Saturday, also at French Field in Kent.
For the Raven girls, senior Brandi Williams led the way, qualifying in the 100- and 200-meter races and the long jump.
Williams, the reigning 4A long jump state champ, finished second in the event with an 18 foot, 9.75 inch jump. Curtis’ Kennadi Bouyer took first with a 19-03.00.
Williams was also third in the 100 with a 12.37-second time and third in the 200 with a 24.93.
Also punching their ticket to the district meet was senior Lori Hansen, who finished first in the high jump with a 5-02.00 and ninth in the javelin with a 94-03.
Senior Rachel O’Neil was second in the 100 hurdles with a 14.71 and junior Rachel Covey finished ninth in the 800 with a 2:22.52.
Sophomore Brittni Williams earned district berths in the long jump, with a fourth-place 17-06.25, and the triple jump with a first-place 38-04.00.
In the distance events seniors Lauren Saunders and Cassidy Brown both qualified for district in two events.
Saunders was second in the 800 with a 2:18.94 and fourth in the 400 with a 59.48, and Brown was fifth in the 800 with a 2:19.36 and seventh in the 1,600 with a 5:18.24.
Auburn Riverside’s 4×400 relay team also moves on with Brown, Covey, Saunders and Lexi Chinn finishing seventh with a 4:06.26.
For the Auburn girls team, senior Anna de Carteret finished seventh in the 3,200 with an 11:46.53 time.
In the boys competition, Auburn’s Kevin Shelton (pictured below) turned in an impressive performance in the throwing events, placing second in the shot put with a 50-01.00 and fourth in the discus with a 141-09.00.
Teammate Jacob Minten grabbed eighth in the javelin with a 141-08.
In the triple jump two Trojans, senior Danny Velasco and freshman James Terrell, both move on. Velasco finished sixth in the event with a 42-06.50 and Terrell was ninth with a 41-07.00.
Rounding out the Auburn boys district qualifiers are Seattle University-bound senior Tyler Flannery – who was sixth in the 1,600 with a 4:23.93 and fourth in the 3,200 with a 9:41.74 – and senior Brennan Wallin – ninth in the 800 with a 2:01.46.
The Auburn Riverside boys move on four individuals and a relay team.
Sophomore Mar’Yea Harris snagged berths in two events, finishing third in the 400 with a 50.00 and sixth in the 200 with a 22.68.
Senior Trevor Love was third in the 800 with a third-place 1:58.58 and senior Devon Larson grabbed sixth in the 110 hurdles with a 14.90.
Senior Joe Miles finished third in the shot put with a 50-00.50 throw.
The Raven 4×400 relay team of Rayne Forsman, Matt Saunders, Isaia Tiangson and Love also moved on with a sixth-place 3:28.27 finish.
The district meet gets underway Friday at French Field in Kent and continues on Saturday.
The top eight finishers at the meet qualify for the Washington State 4A Track and Field Championships, May 23-25 at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.
