No. 1 ranked Mount Rainier proved too much for Auburn Riverside, downing the Ravens 73-58 in South Puget Sound League North 4A girls basketball action at Mount Rainier High School on Friday.
The Ravens (10-3 league, 12-5 overall), winners of seven straight, built a 21-16 first-quarter lead before succumbing the Rams (15-0, 18-1) and their lethal one-two punch of Jordan McPhee, who had 28 points, and Aqueelah Williams, who finished with 19 points.
Auburn Riverside was held to just six points in the second quarter.
Shantell Jackson’s 16 points with Simona Allen’s 11 points led the Ravens. Senior Kendall Foster had five points in the game before re-injuring her knee. Foster missed the first part of the season due to an ACL injury.
The Ravens host Kent-Meridian (0-12, 0-12) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and travel to Auburn (3-11, 5-13) at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
ALSO: Auburn fell in a 28-19 first-half whole and was unable to recover, falling 49-42 at Jefferson (4-10, 5-12) on Friday night. Seanndalynn Faleagafulu had 12 points with Jasmine Tomac adding 11 for Auburn. Jada Piper had a game-high 14 for the Raiders. The Trojans play at Kentwood (10-3, 11-4) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and host Auburn Riverside at 7:30 p.m. Friday. …
Auburn Mountainview improved to 5-3 in league, 9-9 overall with a 49-46 win at Lakes. The Lions host Peninsula (2-6, 10-8) at 6:15 p.m. Saturday and close out their regular season at 7 p.m. next Friday at Decatur (0-8, 0-17).
