The Auburn Riverside girls basketball team defeated Kentwood 59-49 Tuesday in a South Puget Sound League North 4A tiebreaker at Auburn Mountainview High School.
With the teams tied for second with 13-3 league records, the tiebreaker was necessary to decide the No. 2 seed into the SPSL 4A league tourney, which began Thursday.
The Conquerors (14-5 overall) surged to an early 16-6 lead with the Ravens (16-5 overall) coming back in the second frame to tie the game at 26-26 at the half.
The second half of the game was all Riverside, with the Ravens outscoring the Conquerors 33-23 in the half to put away the game.
Auburn Riverside senior Shantell Jackson led the way with a game-high 22 points, with junior Simona Allen adding 15 points and sophomore Brittani Williams contributing 10 points for the Ravens.
Jenny Johnson’s 16 points and Kate Kramer’s 15 led Kentwood.
The win earned Auburn Riverside a game against SPSL South 4A No. 2 Puyallup (14-2, 18-2), the No. 10 ranked 4A team in the state, Thursday at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
The winner of the game is the No. 3 seed into the West Central District III tournament, which begins Feb. 13. The loser is the No. 4 seed.
Kentwood plays SPSL South 4A No. 3 Federal Way (12-4, 16-4) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Puyallup High School.
The winner is the No. 5 seed into district with the loser relegated to No. 6.
