The Auburn Riverside girls track and field team shined at the district meet, qualifying seven athletes for this week’s state 4A showcase.

The Ravens captured first place at the West Central District III/Southwest District IV meet at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma, edging Curtis, 68-67.

Junior Brandi Williams led the way, qualifying for state in four events, including a relay.

Williams, the defending long jump state champion, delivered a season-best effort of 18 feet, 10 1/2 inches at district.

“The weather was perfect,” Williams said. “It wasn’t raining like it usually does.”

Williams also qualified for state in the 100-meter dash with a 12.28-second time, good for third place.

“The 100 isn’t my best event. I just run it to get my speed up for the long jump,” Williams admitted. “I need to learn how to power down the track. But I think I had a decent race.”

In the 200, Williams also punched her ticket to state with a third-place time of 25.36.

Williams will be joined at state by senior teammate Ali Rodseth, who notched a 18-7 in the long jump, and younger sister Brittani Williams, a freshman who had a 17-8 1/2 mark.

Rodseth also was third in the triple jump with a 36-9 1/2 mark.

Junior Rachel O’Neil captured the 100 hurdles district title with a personal-best 14.77.

In the relays, Rodseth, O’Neil and the Williams sisters took home third in the 400 relay with a 50.14.

Senior Rachel Atwood finished second in the 3,200 with a 10:58.34 and fourth in the 1,600 with a 5:06.59. Junior Lauren Saunders was seventh in the 800 with a 2:23.09.

The girls 4A state meet begins Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Mount Tahoma Stadium. The meet continues at 11 a.m. Friday and concludes Saturday, with the first events getting under way at 10 a.m.
