Auburn Riverside still in the hunt for fifth and final seed into state tournament | Girls basketball

The Auburn Riverside girls basketball team stayed alive in the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 girls basketball tournament on Monday, beating Kelso 50-34 in a loser-out contest. The Ravens (13-10) were led by Mckenzi Williams' 11 points, with teammate Faith Turner chipping in with 10 points.

The Auburn Riverside girls basketball team stayed alive in the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 girls basketball tournament on Monday, beating Kelso 50-34 in a loser-out contest.

The Ravens (13-10) were led by Mckenzi Williams’ 11 points, with teammate Faith Turner chipping in with 10 points.

Senior Loryn Musgrove had a game-high 17 for Kelso (16-8).

The win sets up another loser-out contest for the Ravens, this one against South Puget Sound League 3A rival Lakes at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at Washington High School. The Ravens beat the Lancers in both of the teams’ meetings this season.

A win against Lakes moves Auburn Riverside on to a loser-out game against either Central Kitsap or Kennedy Catholic to decide the fifth and final seed into the state regional tournament. That game will be played 1 p.m. Saturday at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

The Washington State 3A Regional Girls Basketball tourney is Feb. 27-28 at various sites.

The Washington State 3A Hardwood Classic Girls Basketball championship tournament is March 5-7 at the Tacoma Dome.
