Auburn’s Maya Jackson, a sophomore at The Northwest School in Seattle, captured the 400-meter title at the state Class 1A track and field championships at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
Jackson, one of the state’s top sprinters in the small school rankings, won in a time of 58.23 seconds.
She took sixth in the 100 and 200 finals with clockings of 12.79 and 26.05, respectively.
Jackson won at all three sprint distances at the Emerald City League Championships two weeks ago.
She plans to compete for Auburn’s Junior Olympic Track & Field club, the Auburn Elite, and is setting her sights on traveling to Houston to represent the team at the Junior Olympic National Championships.
Jackson has competed at nationals twice and ran for the first time this year in the University of Washington’s indoor track competitions against college athletes from throughout the Northwest.
Jackson has a 3.7 GPA and hopes to become a civil rights lawyer.
