With the postseason meets fast approaching, the Auburn track and field team again will look to its throwers.
Senior Max Pratt – who will toss the javelin next year for Eastern Washington University – is third in the 4A state rankings with a mark of 199 feet, 5 inches.
Pratt unleashed his personal-best toss on March 24 against Federal Way.
Last season Pratt finished seventh at the state meet with a 173-5. Tahoma’s Derek Eager won the event with a 207-10.
Senior Danny Shelton – who will play football for the University of Washington next year – is second in the 4A shot put rankings with a throw of 58-4½, a personal record set April 30 at the Shoreline Invite.
Last season Shelton qualified for the state meet in the discus and the shot put, finishing fifth in the shot with a 55-1 and sixth in the discus with a 141-6.
After taking third place in the discus at the last season’s West Central District III meet, Nick Conlan had a disappointing state meet, failing to place in his event.
This season Conlan is fourth in the 4A discus rankings with a 160-0, which he threw April 23 at the South Kitsap Invitational.
Conlan’s personal record in the discus is 166-1, thrown last year at the Shoreline Invite.
On the oval, the Trojans look to junior Allen Malone, who has the 11th fastest 100-meter time in the state 4A rankings at 11.01 seconds.
The Trojans closed out the dual meet season Wednesday against Auburn Riverside, with results unavailable at press time.
The postseason begins with the South Puget Sound League Sub-district meet May 11 and 13 at French Field in Kent. The state championship meet is May 26-28 at Tahoma High School .
