Three former-Auburn Trojan baseball players were chosen in the later rounds of the 2010 Major League Baseball Amateur draft this week.
Kellen Kiilsgaard, currently a Stanford junior, was chosen by the Houston Astros as the 903rd pick in the 30th round of the draft.
Kiilsgaard, a left-handed right fielder, missed most of the 2010 season with a elbow injury. Kiilsgaard hit .328 with 28 RBIs and was an All-Pac-10 selection as a sophomore.
Also selected in the draft was former-Trojan Stephen Foster. Foster, a senior southpaw pitcher at Lewis and Clark State College in Idaho was picked by the Atlanta Braves with the 1,184 pick in the 39th round. Foster attended Bellevue Community College out of high school, where he finished the 2008 season with a 2.02 ERA with a 4-3 record. He threw 58 innings with 62 strikeouts and 46 walks. With Lewis and Clark Foster compiled a 3-1 record in relief, notching a .86 ERA with 33 punchouts and 13 walks in 42 innings.
In the 48th round, University of Washington junior first baseman Troy Scott was selected by the Minnesota Twins with the 1,455 pick of the draft. Scott was also selected by the Twins out of high school, but opted to attend the University of Washington instead. As a senior at Auburn High School Scott was named the South Puget Sound League Most Valuable Player. For the Huskies, Scott hit .233 in 2010, with 11 doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBIs. In the field, Scott had a .994 fielding percentage with just three errors in 55 games at first base.
ALSO: Green River Community College sophomore pitcher Jacob Shadle was selected in the 44th round by the San Francisco Giants with the 1,338th pick in the draft. As a freshman at Green River, Shadle – a Graham-Kapowsin High School graduate – was 7-1 with a 1.83 ERA and 60 strikeouts. This season the sophomore helped lead the Gators to a 21-18 record and an appearance in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College Western Regionals.
