Auburn offensive lineman Cory English had verbally committed to the University of Washington.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound senior is being recruited to play center for the Huskies.

English also had offers from Washington State, Oregon State and Idaho. His only other official visit was to Oregon State.

“Staying close to home so my family could come watch me play” was a factor, English told the Seattle Times. “And (the Huskies) are going to a bowl game two years in a row, and I think it’s going to continue.”

English is rated as a three-star football recruit by Rivals.com and received two stars from Scout.com. He is the Evergreen State’s No. 13-rated prospect,

“Cory is one of the best lineman in the state,” Auburn coach Gordon Elliot “He’s a solid kid with great size.”

English was the South Puget Sound League North 4A co-Offensive Lineman of the Year.

He follows another Auburn product Danny Shelton, who played this season on the defensive line for the Huskies.

“It’s going to be like high school again, me and Danny going head to head again,” English told the Times. “I’m looking forward to that, making each other better.”

The official national letter of intent signing period begins Feb. 1.
