Former Auburn Riverside fastpitch player Alyssa Jarman has signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Bethany College Swedes in Lindsborg, Kan., for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Previously Jarman, an outfielder, played two season at Newman University in Wichita, Kan.
In her junior season, Jarman played in 21 games, starting 12, and hitting .209 while tallying nine hits, one double, four runs and one RBI.
Her sophomore year at Newman, Jarman played in 36 games, starting 32 of them. Recorded 31 hits, two doubles, 13 runs, and five RBIs. Jarman also posted a .979 fielding percentage.
Prior to her time at Newman, Jarman attended Brown Mackie College-Salinas, Kan., and played for current Swedes assistant coach Laura Moreno.
As a freshman, Jarman was named the second team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region VI squad. She hit .448 with 82 hits, eight doubles, one triple, one home run, 58 runs, and 27 RBIs. That season Jarman totaled 46 stolen bases in 52 attempts. In NJCAA national rankings, she was fifth in stolen bases, 14th in hits, and 20th in runs. Jarman also recorded a slugging percentage of .519 and an on base percentage of .482.
At Auburn Riverside, Jarman earned honorable mention All-South Puget Sound League North 4A honors as a senior.
“We are excited to have Alyssa join our softball family,” said Swedes coach Janice Esses. “She will add experience and leadership to our program. We feel Alyssa will strengthen our outfield position with her speed and communication skills. She will also give us depth and versatility in the batting lineup.”
Jarman is the daughter of Terri and Steve Jarman. She plans to major in sports management.
The Bethany College Swedes compete in 18 intercollegiate sports in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Bethany participates in the NAIA Champions of Character program, which encourages integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership in student-athletes, coaches, and youth in the community. Since 1902, Bethany has won 152 conference championships.
