Ariana Kukors, an Auburn Mountainview High graduate, finished sixth in the 400-meter individual medley finals on Sunday during the first day of action at the U.S. Olympic swim trials in Omaha, Neb.
Kukors came in as the fifth seed with a 4:39.51, and was slightly off that during the preliminaries with a 4:40.36. That kept her in the No. 5 spot heading into finals, in which she went 4:42.12.
The sophomore-to-be at the University of Washington still has other races coming up at the trials. She swam in the 100 breaststroke on Monday, and was in the 200 free and the 200 IM on Tuesday (results unavailable). She was the 16th seed going into the 100 breast, 13th in the 200 free and fourth in the 200 IM.
Kukors’ younger sister, Mattie, was 62nd in the 400 IM in 4:56.66. Her older sister, Emily, an Auburn High grad who just finished her senior year at Auburn University, did not swim on Sunday, but is qualified in five events. She was seeded ninth for Tuesday’s 200 IM.
