The Kukors sister act came up big in the NCAA women’s swimming championships last weekend.

Ariana Kukors, an Auburn Mountainview High graduate and now a freshman at the University of Washington, and Emily, an Auburn High product who’s now a senior at Auburn University in Alabama, collectively factored into two second-place finishes, three thirds and three fourths in competition at Columbus, Ohio.

Ariana took a silver in the 200-yard individual medley, a bronze in the 400 IM, and was fourth in the 200 breaststroke, all of which earned her All-American status. She also swam on Washington’s 200 medley relay (ninth place, winning the consolation final), 400 medley relay (12th) and 800 free relay (12th).

By meet’s end, she had factored into 48 of the school-record 112 points, as the Huskies placed 12th, the best finish in program history.

Emily swam the anchor leg on Auburn’s second-place 400 medley relay team, the third leg on its bronze-medal 200 free relay, and gained an individual bronze in the 200 IM. While Auburn’s Ava Ohlgren took the gold in 1:53.94, Emily and Ariana Kukors staged a stroke-for-stroke race for the silver, with Ariana prevailing by two hundredths of a second, 1:55.26-1:55.28.

Emily Kukors also finished fourth in the 200 free, and was on Auburn’s fourth-place 400 free relay team. She finished 15th in the 100 free.

The Tigers, who had won two straight national crowns, were second this time, scoring 348 points. Arizona won going away with 484.
