Lions split with Hornets, finish second in regular-season chase

White, Weeldreyer ignite win; Enumclaw takes second game

Cooper White ripped a pair of doubles, driving in four runs, and Nate Weeldreyer struck out 13 to lead Auburn Mountainview past Enumclaw 7-2 in a North Puget Sound League Olympic Division game Wednesday night on Lea Hill.

At Enumclaw on Thursday, the Hornets prevailed 3-2.

The Lions finished second in the division race at 9-5, 10-10 overall. The Hornets are 8-6, 11-8.

On deck is the NPSL crossover playoffs, which begin Tuesday.

On Wednesday, White doubled in two runs in the sixth inning to pad the Lions’ lead to 7-1.

Weeldreyer, the Purdue-bound right-hander, allowed one run on four hits in six innings of work. Conner Kilcup allowed a run while mopping up in the seventh.

Willis Cresswell and Kamana Nahaku each had two hits and a double.

On Thursday, Nahaku had two hits and an RBI. Nick Dublinski had the other RBI. Weeldreyer doubled.

Elsewhere

Auburn 13, at Decatur 1: Cameron Antee went 4-for-4, doubled and drove in two runs as the Trojans (5-9, 6-14) unleashed 16 hits to rout the Gators (5-9, 7-13) in a five-inning NPSL Olympic game Wednesday.

Rhett Stein blasted two doubles and drove in three runs for Auburn. Ethan Smetheram went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Connor Howat had two hits and an RBI.

Carter Casad allowed the lone run and three hits, striking out six and walking four. Casad also went 2-for-4, including an RBI.

At Federal Way 10, Auburn Riverside 1: The division champion Eagles (13-1, 16-3) shut down the Ravens (6-8, 9-11) on Wednesday.

Logan Moore doubled and drove in the lone run for the Ravens. Dylan Grenz had two of the Ravens’ five hits.
