Local athletes, coach named to All-State baseball teams

Four Auburn-area ballplayers and one coach were named to the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association (WSBCA) All-State team this week. From Auburn Mountainview, senior infielder/pitcher Nick Brooks and senior catcher Brice McCulloch were selected to the 3A first-team for their roles in driving the Lions to the school's first-ever state 3A title.

Four Auburn-area ballplayers and one coach were named to the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association (WSBCA) All-State team this week.

From Auburn Mountainview, senior infielder/pitcher Nick Brooks and senior catcher Brice McCulloch were selected to the 3A first-team for their roles in driving the Lions to the school’s first-ever state 3A title.

Brooks finished the season with a .511 batting average, with four home runs, 13 doubles and 42 RBIs.

On the mound Brooks notched an 11-0 record, with a 1.70 ERA in 70 innings pitched. He fanned 99 batters.

McCulloch finished with a .382 batting average with two home runs, five doubles and 26 RBIs.

Auburn Mountainview coach Glen Walker was honored with the WSBCA’s Coach of the Year award.

The Lions finished the season with a 26-3 overall record.

Also selected for the All-State team were Auburn Riverside senior infielders Austin Marty and Justin Jacobs.

Marty – who was chosen to the 4A first-team lineup – capped his high school career with a .476 batting average this past season, with 26 RBIs, six home runs and 12 doubles.

Jacobs earned a 4A second-team nod with a .437 batting average with 14 RBIs and 10 doubles.

The Ravens finished the season with a 14-9 overall record and an appearance in the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 tournament.
