McClatcher, Federal Way overcome Auburn, 33-23; Lions outlast Gators | SPSL football

The Eagles improved to 7-1. The Trojans dropped to 5-3.

McClatcher scored on runs of 76 in the first quarter, 17 (third) and 39 yards (fourth). He also scored on a 90-yard pass play from quarterback Keenan Curran in the third quarter that triggered the Eagles’ 26-point second-half explosion.

The Eagles finished the game with 489 yards of total offense, 111 yards passing and 378 yards on the ground.

Ercle Terrell scored on a 25-yard run and Brier Atkinson ran 12 yards for another for Auburn, which held a 20-3 halftime lead.

Terrell led the Trojans in rushing with 115 yards on 14 carries. Kieo Buchanan chipped in with 40 yards on nine carries and Atkinson had 16 carries for  89 yards. Atkinson also had 1-of-7 passing for two yards.

Caden Borden booted field goals of 21, 31 and 33 yards for Auburn.

The Trojans (5-2 league, 5-3 overall) host Auburn Riverside (6-1, 6-2) in a tilt to determine the winner of the Fugate Trophy at 7 p.m. Friday.

Elsewhere

Auburn Mountainview 45, Decatur 32. Gresch Jensen threw three touchdown passes to Joey Cassano and ran for a fourth as the Lions won a wild one over the Gators in SPSL 3A play Friday night.

Cassano was on the receiving end of TD passes covering 13, 53 and 64 yards and finished with five catches for 148 yards for the Lions (1-3 league, 2-6 overall).

Aeron Watson returned a fumble 14 yards for one score and Ray Hardaway rushed 4 yards for another TD for the Lions. Hardaway finished the game with 10 carries for 58 yards.

Jensen was 10-of-16 passing for 220 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 81 yards in the contest.

Isaiah Diggs caught, ran and intercepted a pass for TDs for the Gators (0-4, 1-5).

Auburn Mountainview hosts Bonney Lake (3-1, 3-5) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
