Purdue-bound Weeldreyer strikes out 19 as Auburn Mountainview stops Auburn Riverside 2-0

Purdue-bound Nate Weeldreyer threw a no-hitter, striking out 19 and walking none, to lead visiting Auburn Mountainview past Auburn Riverside 2-0 in an North Puget Sound League Olympic Division opener Tuesday.

Weeldreyer went the full seven innings on an economical 85-pitch effort.

The Lions improved to 2-3 overall. The Ravens dropped to 3-3.

Willis Cresswell had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Lions. Vicente Feliciano had the other RBI.

Sam Spicciati took the loss for Auburn Riverside. He surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out three.

The same teams play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Auburn Mountainview High School.

Elsewhere

Auburn 13, at Thomas Jefferson 2: The Trojans (1-0, 1-5) erupted for 17 hits in routing the Raiders (0-1, 0-3) in an NPSL Olympic opener. Gordon Elliott, Auburn’s interim coach, picked up his first win.

Jace Graves had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Trojans. Carter Casad went 2 for 3, with two doubles, and drove in two runs. He also started, went 3-plus innings to get the win.

Connor Howat and Michael Johnson each had two hits, including a double, and 2 RBI.
