The Auburn Mountainview Lions (2-3 overall, 2-3 league) narrowly defeated the Franklin Pierce Cardinals (1-4, 1-3) 13-12 in South Puget Sound League 3A Division play this past Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium. Senior quarterback Cody McNeil provided the scoring for Mountainview with a one-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and a six-yard scamper for six points in the fourth quarter. The Lions will travel to Pete’s Pool at 7 p.m. this Saturday to play Enumclaw.
ALSO: The Auburn Riverside football team improved its record to 2-3 overall, 2-2 in the South Puget Sound League North 4A Division, with a 17-13 win over Thomas Jefferson this past Saturday at Federal Way Memorial Field.
The Ravens dug themselves out of a 7-0 hole in the third quarter, with kicker Josh Cline booting a 29-yard field goal and junior Connor Bjornstad galloping in for a 74-yard touchdown run. Junior quarterback John Hakala added a six-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to ice the win for Auburn Riverside.
The Ravens came into the game averaging a meager 103 yards per game, but managed to put together a respectable 195 yards on the ground in the contest. Bjornstad finished with 183 yards on 18 carries, averaging 10.2 yards per carry.
Hakala was 7-of-14 in the air for 71 yards and one interception.
Senior Ryan Adams had three catches for 43 yards, with Keyonte Scott adding two catches for 12 yards.
Defensively the Ravens held the Raiders (1-4 overall, 1-3 league) to just 226 yards total offense. Auburn Riverside had five sacks in the game, with junior Cameron Grad contributing two and senior Mitch Youngs, junior Brandon Hand and sophomore Brett Lee all adding one each. Junior Cole Luckett had an interception for the Ravens.
The Ravens will host Federal Way at 7 p.m. this Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
