Kevin Radke was riding high last weekend at Emerald Downs.
On Saturday, Radke notched the 1,000th victory of his career when he and his mount Biddynthechief went gate to wire in the sixth race.
Then on Sunday, he won five races on the 10-race card, including the $50,000 Washington State Legislators Stakes aboard Victorina.
Radke, a 36-year-old Cleveland native, began his career in 1998 in Northern California, but has been an Emerald Downs staple the last several years. He won riding titles here in 2002 and 2003, and ranks second at the current meet with 41 wins, two behind Ricky Frazier.
Biddynthechief opened a long early lead and held sway for a four-length victory in the one-mile claiming race for fillies and mares.
In Sunday’s Legislators Stakes, Victorina took command entering the stretch and scored a 1¼-length victory over Beaulena. Shampoo overcame a poor start to finish third. Private Dreams, the 3-to-5 betting favorite, finished fifth in the seven-horse field.
Radke’s five winners on Sunday included the last four races on the card. It was his fifth five-win day at Emerald Downs. He’s also the only jockey in track history to ride six winners in a day, accomplishing that feat on Sept. 2, 2002.
