BASKETBALL

This Auburn Parks program is for boys and girls in grades 2-10. Skills covered include shooting, dribbling, passing, one-on-one perimeter and post moves, rebounding, on-ball defense, team defense, increasing vertical leap and quickness, how to train on your own, and sports psychology. The program will run on Wednesday evenings at Rainier Middle School in Auburn, with sessions set for Oct. 7-28 and Nov. 11-Dec. 9 for boys in grades 2-5 (6-7 p.m.) and girls in 4-7 (7-8 p.m.), with a cost of $50 for Auburn residents and $63 for non-residents. A two-hour Wednesday session at Rainier on the same dates will be offered for boys in grades 2-5 and girls in grades 4-7 from 6-8 p.m., with a cost of $85 for Auburn residents and $107 for non-residents. AUBURN PARKS ADULT FALL LEAGUE

This is a call-your-own league without officials, trophies or playoffs. Two leagues will be offered: National (Mondays) and Continental (Tuesdays). Each team will play 10 games. The registration fee is $120, and is due by Sept. 9. A MANDATORY coaches meeting is set for Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation Administration Building (910 Ninth St. N.E.). League play goes from Sept. 28/29 to Dec. 7/8. AUBURN PARKS YOUTH FLAG PROGRAM

This is an all-pass, non-contact league for boys and girls in grades 4-5 and 6-8. The season runs Oct. 5-Nov. 18, with practices on weekday evenings, and games scheduled for Monday and/or Wednesday evenings local parks. A skills clinic conducted by Auburn High School coaches and players is set for Sunday, Oct. 4. The cost for the program is $30 for Auburn residents and $38 for non-residents. AUBURN PARKS ADULT FALL LEAGUE

This six-a-side, no-blocking league will play on a modified field with an intermediate-size football. Three leagues — American (upper), National (middle) and Continental (lower) will be offered. Teams will play one or two games per week (Sundays and/or Wednesdays) for a total of eight league games from Sept. 13-Nov. 15. Division leaders advance to playoffs. The entry fee is $650 per team. AUBURN PARKS ADULT LESSONS

GYMNASTICS

AUBURN PARKS PROGRAMS

The BOYS ROCKETMAN program for boys ages 4-6 will offer beginning tumbling and apparatus exercises, with emphasis on coordination, balance and concentration. The MIGHTY STARS program is for boys and girls ages 5-6, with the same focus as the Rocketman program. No previous gymnastics experience is required for either program. Program dates are Oct. 7-28 and Nov. 4-25 on Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. at Auburn Gymnastics Center (1601 Boundary Blvd.). The cost is $40 for Auburn residents and $50 for non-residents. BEGINNING GYMNASTICS

This class offered by Auburn Parks teaches beginning levels of gymnastics, with focus on muscle control, flexibility, power and coordination. BEGINNERS PROGRAM

The Sno-King Junior Thunderbirds will offer a year-round, beginners-level program for boys and girls ages 5-10. No skating experience is necessary. LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES

An eight-week series with group and private lessons for boys, girls and adults is being offered at KENT VALLEY ICE CENTRE. Instruction is based on criteria set forth by the Ice Skating Institute. AUBURN PARKS YOUTH PROGRAM

This is a developmental program for boys and girls in grades K-8, and for coaches. Teams will practice once or twice per week. All games will be played in Auburn (Game Farm Park, Brannan Park, and YMCA), most of them on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with the possibility of one or two weeknight games. All programs begin Sept. 25 or 26, and continue through Oct. 31 (grades K-1) or Nov. 14 (grades 2-3, 4-5, and 6-8). The pool offers several programs. PUBLIC SWIMS are available Monday through Friday from 1-3 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. at $2.75 for adults and $2.25 for youths. LAP SWIMS are scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6-8 a.m., noon-1 p.m. and 8-9 p.m. at $3.75 for adults and $2.75 for youths. LESSONS are available on a Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday basis from 5:30-7 p.m., and on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-noon. Prices depend on age. WRESTLING

AUBURN PARKS DEVELOPMENTAL PRORGAM

This program is for boys and girls ages 6-12 (may not turn 13 in 2009) who reside in or attend a public or private school within the Auburn School District and/or Dieringer School District boundaries. The focus will be on learning proper fundamentals, sportsmanship, conditioning, teamwork and confidence in an atmosphere that is fun and competitive. Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. at Auburn High School. Matches and/or tournaments, some which might require travel in the surrounding area, are on Saturdays. The program runs from Oct. 20 to Jan. 24. The cost is $75 for auburn residents and $85 for non-residents, and registration (which must include a copy of the athlete’s birth certificate) is due by Oct. 19.
