The Auburn Riverside boys cross country team ran away with the first place team trophy at last weekend’s South Puget Sound League 4A Sub-District meet at Ft. Steilacoom State Park in Lakewood.
The team was keyed by junior Korey Krotzer’s first-place finish. Krotzer held off Federal Way senior Meron Simon to finish with a 15-minute, 20.8-second time. Simon was second with a 15:21.2.
Raven senior Keefe Hanson was third in the race with a 15:58.5.
Also finishing in the top-ten were Auburn Riverside seniors Nic Lawrence and Jeff Miles, who were fifth and sixth with a 16:03.0 and 16:04.6, respectively.
Junior Sam Bailey finished 18th in the race with a 16:44.0 and senior Skylar Cowan was 38th with a 17:07.3 finish. Senior Sam Demissie rounded out Raven finishers with a 67th place, 17:43.4 finish.
Auburn Riverside finished with 33 team points to grab the SPSL 4A title, with Puyallup finishing second with 102 points.
The team will look to grab the district 4A title this Saturday at the Westside Classic at American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood. The 4A boys run at 3 p.m. with the top eight teams and top 40 individuals moving on to the 4A state meet.
ALSO: The Trojan boys cross country team, paced by junior Cody McCrainie, finished 12th at the sub-district meet with 326 points. McCrainie finished in 34th-place with a 17:03.8…Auburn Mountainview placed two runners in the top-ten at the SPSL/Seamount 3A Sub-District meet, also at Ft. Steilacoom this past Saturday. Dylan Summerlin grabbed fifth with a 16:58.8 and Chris Scharer was 10th with a 17:04.4. The Lions were fifth in the team competition with 108 points. Curtis King of Peninsula won the meet with a 15:39.7 time and the Seahawks were first in the team competition with 51 points. The Westside Classic 3A District meet is this Saturday at American Lake Golf Course with a 2:30 p.m. start time for the boys. Five teams and the top 25 individuals will move on to the state meet.
