Riverside volleyball takes third at state 4A tourney

The Auburn Riverside volleyball team finished their 2009 season with a third place finish at the Washington State 4A Volleyball tournament, conducted this past weekend in Kennewick.

The No. 4 ranked Ravens (17-5) opened play with a first round match against No. 7 ranked Richland, with senior Brooke Bray powering Auburn Riverside to a 3-2 win, with scores of 27-29, 36-34, 20-25, 25-20 and 15-12. Bray had 53 kills and 10 digs. Brooklynn Bradbury added 67 assists and 13 kills and Maureen Sachs had nine kills and 22 digs. Jane Han added 18 digs.

The win earned the Ravens a second round match against South Puget Sound League North 4A rival Kentwood.

The Ravens had no trouble sweeping assist the Conquerors 3-0 with socres of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-11.

In round three Auburn Riverside found themselves facing No. 3 ranked Curtis in a game to determine who would play for the state championship. The Ravens fell 3-0 to the Vikings with scores of 16-25, 26-28 and 20-25.

The loss relegated Auburn Riverside to play No. 2 ranked Graham-Kapowsin for third place. The Ravens avenged a 3-1 loss to the Eagles earlier in the season by capturing third place with a 3-0 win with scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-18.

Bray led the team with 17 kills, five blocks and 10 digs. Sachs had eight kills and 15 digs and Alison Wuerch added nine kills. Kellie Zulauf had 13 digs.

ALSO: The Auburn Mountainview volleyball team ended their season this past weekend with a 1-2 performance at the Washington State 3A tourney, also conducted in Kennewick. The Lions (17-6) fell 3-0 to the eventual state champions Bishop Blanchet, with scores of 23-25, 18-25 and 13-25, in the first round. Mountainview rebounded in the second round with a 3-0 victory over Columbia River before ending their tourney with a 3-2 loss to Lakes.
