The South King County Colts football team officially announced that West Coast Sports & Entertainment has purchased its assets and will begin a new season in the Pacific Football League (PFL) in April 2015.
Ryan Berndt, former SKC Colts director of football operations, and Claire Nelson, cheer director, purchased the team and have begun administering day-to-day operations. The nonprofit team is entering its seventh season after finishing just shy of the 2014 championship title.
“We are thrilled to continue building the SKC Colts legacy that started seven years ago,” Berndt said. “We’d love to build the hype back up about the semi-pro level and continue to provide incredible opportunities for people who still want to play the game and cheer.
“It’s very affordable, family-friendly entertainment. People get to pursue their dreams, and we are able to give back to the community that supports us.
”The Colts were in the midst of dissolving in July after six years of providing semi-professional football opportunities when Berndt and Nelson offered to purchase the team.
“We are excited to establish a more positive and mutually-beneficial relationship with the community, businesses, coaches, educators and members within Pierce and King Counties,” Nelson said. “Also be on the lookout for some added activities such as youth cheer and football camps.”
The SKC Colts will play an eight- to 10-game schedule beginning in April, running through the end of July and look forward to the rivalries with teams like the Seattle Stallions and Bellingham Bulldogs.
“Our season starts after the high school, college and professional football teams end their seasons, so for those who love good football, supporting the Colts is the perfect way to stay with the game,” Berndt said.
