Stars sign former Sounder, MLS veteran Neagle

Federal Way player to see first action Sunday at ShoWare

The Tacoma Stars have signed former Seattle Sounders FC player and Major League Soccer veteran Lamar Neagle to a deal.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Neagle, of Federal Way, is expected to play his first Major Arena Soccer League game Sunday against the Turlock (Calif.) Express at the accesso ShoWare Center. Kickoff is 5:05 p.m.

“The Stars are my home town team,” Neagle said. “Seeing how my game transfers to the indoor style of play and hopefully help the team along the way is a challenge I gladly accept.”

Neagle will help the Kent-based Stars remain competitive in the tough Pacific Division.

“As we head toward the playoffs, adding a player with Lamar Neagle’s skill and experience is going to be a nice push offensively for the team,” said Stars owner Lane Smith. “We have an important stretch of games coming up, and Lamar should help the team with his leadership and technical skills. We are looking to give Stars fans playoff soccer again this season.”

Neagle was a three-year starter at Thomas Jefferson High School. His senior year saw the Raiders post a 16-2-4 record en route to the state’s 4A crown. He also snapped a 31-year state record by netting six goals in one game that season.

Neagle played in every game except one in four years at UNLV, leading the Rebels in goals during his junior and senior campaigns. He was a second-team All-Far-West Region selection in 2008.

Neagle began his MLS career in 2009 when he signed with the Sounders but made his playing debut with the team in 2011.

In all, Neagle appeared in 130 games for the Sounders, scoring 28 regular-season MLS goals. Neagle also logged four Champions League goals as well as one each in the MLS postseason and U.S. Open Cup. His 34 total goals for the Sounders is fourth on the all-time scoring list for the club.

He also saw playing time with DC United and the Montreal Impact in which he picked up 12 goals in 76 appearances.

Honors

Stars midfielder Mike Ramos was named to the MASL’s Week 14 Team of the Week following the team’s 11-6 win over the El Paso Coyotes on March 1.

Ramos picked up five points in the victory including three goals. He also assisted on the game-winning power-play goal in the third quarter for the Stars.

Ramos is one of four players to appear in all 17 games for the Stars this season. He is second on the team in scoring with 24 points. His 11 assists and 13 goals are also second on the roster in those categories.
