The Auburn Trojans dominated the Federal Way Eagles on the mat in their penultimate duel on Jan. 18 by a score of 58-28.
“They came ready to wrestle today … I think they are peaking right at the right time,” said Trojan Head Coach Emmanuel Martinez.
Auburn’s record in duels improved to 3-1 on the season. The one loss came against Auburn Riverside the previous week.
“Winning definitely makes them want to work harder. It brings them together and they feel great, they feel hyped,” Martinez said.
It was Federal Way’s senior night, and Auburn had no problem crashing the party. Of the 11 matches that were wrestled last Wednesday night, only three Trojans lost their matches.
Auburn won five of the seven matches via pin; two of their matches were won by technical fall.
The best run of matches for Auburn was from seven wins in a row.
The following wrestlers won by pin: Shayne Namon (182 pounds), Martin Heurta (285 pounds), Juan Gallardo-Luna (120 pounds), Fabian Gallardo-Luna (132 pounds), Bryce Rowland (145 pounds), Jaylord Bielza (170 pounds). The two wrestlers who won via technical fall were Dominik Smith (142 pounds) and Jace Longmire (152 pounds).
The Trojans brought six wrestlers to state last season and are looking to bring more wrestlers to state this year.
“We have high hopes as coaching to bring a couple kids, the freshmen are looking really good, the rest of the kids are looking great as well,” Martinez said. “We take it one day at a time.”
The Trojans closed out their duel season on Jan. 25 against Thomas Jefferson on the road.
