Auburn Riverside turned back rival Auburn 39-22 in a battle of unbeaten teams to capture the North Puget Sound League Olympic Division regular-season dual title Feb. 25 at Auburn High School.
It was the Ravens’ first league dual title in program history. The Ravens improved to 7-0 in duals, while the Trojans dropped to 6-1.
Zack Villanueva (138 pounds), Jacob Oaks (152), Kenny Miller (160), Jonathon Richards (170) and Yusef Nelson (120) came from behind in the third period to score wins in dramatic fashion for Auburn Riverside.
“As a coach it was a great environment,” said the Ravens’ Kyle Jones. “The crowd was into the dual. Both teams were amped up and ready to go. It was great to see our kids respond the way they did to a big match against a very tough opponent and come out on top.”
Wrestlers from both programs, along with Auburn Mountainview, advance to the sub-regional tournament Friday and Saturday at Auburn.
